Hybrid Enforcement of Category-Based Access Control

چکیده
Access control policies often are partly static, i.e. no dependence on any run-time information, and partly dynamic. However, they are usually enforced dynamically even the static parts. We propose a new hybrid approach to policy enforcement in the Category-Based Access Control (CBAC) meta-model. We build on previous work, which established a static system for the enforcement of (static) hierarchical RoleBased Access Control (RBAC) policies. We modify the previous policy language, JPol, to specify static and dynamic categories. We establish an equivalence between static categories and static roles (in RBAC), therefore we are able to use the previous design patterns and static verification algorithm, with some changes, to enforce static categories. For dynamic categories, we propose a new design methodology and generate code in the target program to do the necessary run-time checks.

One of the security issues in data outsourcing is the enforcement of the data owner’s access control policies. This includes some challenges. The first challenge is preserving confidentiality of data and policies. One of the existing solutions is encrypting data before outsourcing which brings new challenges; namely, the number of keys required to access authorized resources, efficient policy u...
متن کاملAn automatic test case generator for evaluating implementation of access control policies
One of the main requirements for providing software security is the enforcement of access control policies which aim to protect resources of the system against unauthorized accesses. Any error in the implementation of such policies may lead to undesirable outcomes. For testing the implementation of access control policies, it is preferred to use automated methods which are faster and more relia...
متن کاملAccess control in ultra-large-scale systems using a data-centric middleware
The primary characteristic of an Ultra-Large-Scale (ULS) system is ultra-large size on any related dimension. A ULS system is generally considered as a system-of-systems with heterogeneous nodes and autonomous domains. As the size of a system-of-systems grows, and interoperability demand between sub-systems is increased, achieving more scalable and dynamic access control system becomes an im...
متن کاملRelationship-Based Access Control: Its Expression and Enforcement Through Hybrid Logic
Access control policy is typically defined in terms of attributes, but in many applications it is more natural to define permissions in terms of relationships that resources, systems, and contexts may enjoy. The paradigm of relationshipbased access control has been proposed to address this issue, and modal logic has been used as a technical foundation. We argue here that hybrid logic – a natura...
متن کاملExtending XACML to support Credential Based Hybrid Access Control
Various research efforts are in progress to enforce credential based access control using XACML standard. The current standard of XACML supports attribute based access control [4,5,9,19]. While XACML accepts certified attributes through digital certificates, it does not support credential based access control in which the access conditions are defined not only in terms of credential attributes ...
